and can thus show the condition of the picture underneath. In
this case, as there was no dirty varnish on the picture, this
power is not illustrated.
The picture attributed to Crespi was then cleaned, and
Archiv Nr. 1674 (Abb. 5)
the repaint removed. Illustration 4 shows the whole picture
partially cleaned, but our restorer was not satisfied. He said
there was still another coat of repaint on the picture, and he
said he thought that the column at the right and the two angels
in the upper right hand corner were more recent additions; so
he asked to have the picture X rayed.
