lt will be seen that the right half was cleaned and the column
and the two angels were removed, as the X ray prophecied
that they would be. The left half still remains partially cleaned.
No attempt has been made to touch in the missing places.

767. Eine Deruta-Majolikatälschung. (Mit-
teilung auf der Wiener Tagung, vgl. Prot. S. 9 Nr. XIX und
Archiv Nr. 1676 ab).

Unter den bekanntesten Maioliken von Deruta ist ein
Teller — jetzt im Victoria and Albert Museum —, der mehr-
mals veröffentlicht worden ist. An der Vorderseite trägt er
Grotteskenornament, dazwischen Inschriften die lauten ‚„sola
miseria charet invidia“ und „Nemo chonfidat nimium sechundis
