mismatics, and Professor Zygmunt Vogel conducted there his classes in
draughtsmanship for the pupils of the Lycee, which Chopin would have
attended. Today, its place is occupied by the building of the Department
of Polish Studies; the appearance of the old building is, fortunately, known
from the measurements taken by Leonard Schmidtner and Jan Tafilowski
(fig. 144)98. In 1819, the ground floor of the former royal kitchens, which
were located north of the Kazimierzowski Palace, was adapted for a
