INTRODUCTION.
AS the Nervous System is the medium interpofed between the living
principle and the several organs which compose the bodies of ani-
mals, an exad knowledge os its strudure and sunctions mull appear to the
philosopher, as well as to the physician, os high importance in the ftudy
os nature.
The bram, cerebellum, medulla oblongata, medulla spinalis, and the
nerves, with their ganglia, sorm this syftem.
Os thefe parts I mall treat in the order in which I have enumerated them,
confining my obfervations, as much as possible, to such sacls and circum-
llances as have not been ascertained, or have been altogether overlooked by
anatomifts and physiologifts.
