62 OB, SERVATIONS ON THE

CHAPTER XXI.
Of some principal Nerves which have not been properly-
Traced by Authors.
|"N this chapter I shall describe some principal nerves which have not
-*- been properly traced by authors.
i. I begin with observing, that the branches of the sirft, or olsactory
pair os nerves, are not fo extremely sost, and fo suddenly diffused upon the
membrane os the nofe, that it is impossible to trace them distinctly by dis-
sedion, as Dr Zinn and Dr Haller have affirmed *; on the contrary, they
may, even in the human fubjed, be traced a great way within the nose,
where their fmall branches are joined, and again separated, so as to sorm a
very elegant net-work s.
In the iheep and ox these nerves are hollow, and a branch is sent ofs, not,
like the rest, srom the bulb at the end os the trunk, but srom the upper
part os the trunk, within the cranium, and hence it can be traced more
eafily than the other branches J.

noitra avec moi, que la molesse coulante et muqueuse du ners Olsaaoire, depuis qu'il a pane la lame

de son Anaftamofe avec les autres nerss.------Haller, El. Phys. torn. iv. p. 200. Ita olfastorius nervus,
nufquam equidem durus, in pituitaria membrana molliffimus expanditur, ut ramos in homine perfe-
