Note: There are no general descriptive notes for this grave. Figure 174 b shows burial A, head
south, plundered with head turned over, the disturbance perhaps resulting partly from the four
large rocks found lying in the grave when opened. Figure 174 a, c, d. There is some upper matting,
lengthwise, at pelvis and along back of A. Figure 174 b, c. Body B is not clear in the photographs,
but it lay along the west side of the grave and was covered with upper matting running length-
wise. The entire grave wall was lined with twigs set vertically and lashed together with cords
in two rows. Figure 175 a, c, d, e. The floor of the grave was covered with an under matting laid

Whole upper part of body plundered: skull missing, lower jaw and most other bones in filling. A
young person of 18 or 19 with bone ends just beginning to knit. Fragment of coarse cloth under
pelvis. In center of grave, lying on under matting were a ball of matted hair (1) and several
ribs (2). At north end, upper matting of Type II, lengthwise. Whole floor covered with perfectly
preserved under matting of Type II, lengthwise.

Skull and left arm missing. Lower jaw (1) near right humerus which remained in position. A
rather small man but definitely adult. Back of pelvis and feet was a mass of cloth of fairly fine
thin weave (4). Figure 176 j. 10 cm. from pelvis and in the appropriate position was a compact
mass of cloth (2) which must have served as a protective pouch, but made of cloth instead of the
usual leather. Figure 176 h, i. A proof of this lay in the fact that, on removing the first vertebra
above the sacrum, a strip of cloth 1 cm. wide was found preserved to a length of 13 cm. running
