the honour to wear Her Majesty's Uniform is Obe-
dience, and that it is on every individual, that the
smartness and regularity of a Corps depends. It
must also be understood that drill is not merely a
physical exercise to help , digestion and promote
health; it is part of a system of specific training for
a definite end. The best and smartest officers and
men in our army, are those who have passed through
Colleges, and Schools, where military Drill forms a
portion of their education, the Regimental Instructors
find their work to a great extent anticipated. The
foundation is already laid, and instead of having to
teach the elementary principles of drill they find
that those officers, and men of the rank and file, who
have passed through the hands of the instructor of
their College and School, are already well up in the
subject, and can be at once taken on to the more
advanced and intricate movements.

School News.

We are glad to see the drill-shed at last ap-
proaching completion. Many Neuejiheim and Heidel-
berg workmen have had a i'ew days work at it, and
have all been found wanting, but at last, we belive,
Mr. Armitage has succeeded in finding a workman,
who does not insist on knocking off' work at 8 o'clock
for breakfast, at 10 a. m. for beer, at 12 p. m. for
lunch, at 4 p. m. for coffee and at 5 p. m. for good.
This rara avis too works on Saturdays and is not
conscience smitten at appearing before 2 p. m. on
Mondays. He is altogether a singular being, for he
is not interested in football, neither in drill, nor does
he send more than two men away at a time to fetch
mortar.

We do not publish a full list of boys, who have
joined since our last issue, but merely the names of
those who have joined this term: the former would
take up too much space.
