DER NEUENHEIMER.

XII

followed by the entire population laughing and hoot-
ing ; possibly they thought we were a lot of strolling-
Gypsies or something of that sort; anyway they cer-
tainly had never seen " Neuenheim on the loose " before.
At the Hotel, which after some time we found, the
landlord gave us a most excellent supper after which
we went to bed.

Luckily next morning nothing serious was the
matter with anyone, so after a first-rate breakfast,
which we partook of separately in our bedrooms, we
went down and had a look at the boats which had
safely arrived ; we found that the " Donau " was not
strongly enough mended to allow the bow man to row ;
so stroke and three agreed to row the boat down, while
bow and two sat in the boat and just kept their oars
in the water to keep steady.

We reached Neckarsteinach about three, and had
a very good dinner; and starting again about an hour
afterwards we reached Heidelberg at six.

Taking every fact into consideration, there is no
doubt that we enjoyed ourselves very much, and if it
had'nt been for the unfortunate catastrophe at " Neck-
argesmashed " the Heilbronn expedition would have
been a complete success. We hope that next Easter
some fellows will be energetic enough to make another
expedition up the river; but from experience we
advise them not to take the light four.

The following went in the light four :—

Hammerton (bow). Reeves, 2. Davis, 3.
Watts (stroke). Heywood (cox).

And the following went in the heavy four :—
Reynolds (bow). Daubeny, 2. Dunne, 3.
Hayes, (stroke). Hawthorn i. (cox).
