we are fortunate enough to possess fives courts, it ought
to be played more than it is. Non-players of it are
often inclined to consider it a poor game, but those
who can play are aware that it is one of the best
games in vogue.
The Athletic Sports which came off on Saturday,
April 11th, produced some very exciting races, notice-
ably in the open events. The times for most of the
open races were not certainly as good as they might
be, but we must take into consideration the smallness
of our ring, which must add to the time taken to run
several times round it The distances for the cricket
ball and the long jump were very good, while the high
jump and the weight were not. In the junior events
mai^ of the times were very good; it was however
curious that the high jump under 10 was not so good
by several inches as it was under 15 last year. We
were favoured with excellent weather for those taking
part in the sports although perhaps it was rather cold
for the visitors, who nevertheless were fairly numerous.
The management was excellent, and we may say with
confidence that the sports were a great success.
Owing to the coldness of the weather all last
term, we were not able to do much drilling. The first
company have however done a little towards learning
the rifle drill, and will no doubt become proficient in it*
this term. It will be a surprise to many of our readers
to learn that the rifles have at last arrived after about
a 3rear's delay. No promotions in the Corps are
announced yet.
The Theatricals last Christmas proved an un-
divided success, despite the rather ambitious choice of
the piece to be played. All the parts in the Operetta
wore well taken and the choruses above all expectation.
The German play went off well too, despite the dis-
advantage of its being in a foreign language. There is
