especially conspicuous on our side. Soon Houseman
got the ball and ran for a short way and passed to
Cavendish who was soon smartly collared. Soon after
Stoker ran for a good way but was pushed into touch,
and the Referee blew the whistle for time, neither side
having scored.
The game was hard all through, especially among
the forwards of both sides. The backs had hardly a
chance owing to the heavy ground. On our side the
most conspicuous for good play were Ranking, Roberts,
Stoker, Hill, Price and Blundell; of the Frankfurt team
Reiz, Conrad, Stasny and Adler were the best. The
teams were as follows:
Neuenheim: Bellairs, back; Roberts, Ash, half-backs;
Cavendish, Houseman, Price, three-quarter backs; Stoker,
Ranking, Weber, Page, Hill, Hankey, Mackie, C. Wyatt,
Blundell, forwards.
Frankfurt: Ehrhardt, back; Michel, Mayer, half-
backs; Battenberg, Reiz, Mötsch, Stockhausen, three-
quarter backs; Adler, Conrad, H. Stasny, L. Stasny,
Riese, C. Hommel, W. Hommel, Schlenck, forwards.
Referee: C. de Bernales.
N. C. F. C. versus Cannstatt F. C.
This match, played on the 27tn November, on the
Cannstatt ground, was the most unsastifactory one of
the whole term. To begin with we were minus Stoker I,
who had hurt his foot, and Mackie and Mr. Blundell,
who were unable to come. After the really magnificent
play of our forwards on the previous Saturday against
Frankfurt we expected great things of them in this
match, but to the surprise of evergone, not only did
our forwards not play up properly, but also they only
just pushed the Cannstatt men and heeled only mode-
rately well. At the throw-out from touch the only man
who even played moderately well was de Bernales.
After many letters and telegrams from the Cann-
statt captain we decided to take our own Referee and
Linesman, although the latter was not needed, as it
