DER NEUENHEIMER.

improvement of the team since then has been most
noteworthy. One word more; our forwards, do not seem
to realize that one of the most important factors in good
forward play is thorough packing in the scrum; they will
persist, once, in forming a scrum about five or six
abreast, and then again in forming one with only three
abreast, it is chiefly for this reason that we were so
pushed about, during the first 20 minutes of our match
against Heidelberg College, when later on we did settle
down to consistent packing, matters immediately began
to change; the forwards must also dispel from their
minds the idea that they are are machines, made for
the sole purpose of heeling out to their three-quarters;
they should screw and wheel, dribble and pass between
themselves much more than the}' do now. Another serious
mistake is a peculiar tendeney towards admiring the
passing of the opponent three-quarters, and leaving all
the tackling to their own three-quarters, but as far as
work in the scrum, knowledge of the game, kicking
and tackling is concerned, the pack can hold its own
against any which Germany can produce, and also against
a good many of those of the English Public Schools.

F. Weber (captain).

The Football XV (1894 -95).

M. C. Stoker: An invaluable forward both in the pack
and in the loose, is exceptionally good at gaining
ground along the touch line, combining great smart-
ness with his weight and strength; good place kick
and excellent drop.

R. M. Ranking: A good hard-working forward, backs
up very well and very tricky at the touch line.
Good drop kick.

F. Weber (captain): A very steady useful forward,
goo*d out of touch, backs up and pushes fairly well;
a smart collar in the loose.

B. D. Roberts: Flays a steady game at three-quarters
on the left centre, but is decidedly better at half
where he has often saved his side by his grand
tackling.
