DER NEUENHEIMER.

energy to prepare the course we cannot say. At any
rate the end of the term was not marked by any occur-
rence of any kind. Last year our predecessor cried out
because there were no sports, although there was a
match against Mr. Alexander's team. He evidentliy did
not foresee what would happen this year.

However, to atone for their past indiscretion the
Committee made some excellent regulations regarding
the colours always previously bestowed on the crew
of the winning boat in the House Race. House Boating
and Cricket colours have been abolished. We have
heard that the Cricket XI Colours are to be altered;
the blazer to be striped, black, blue and white lengthways,
cap to correspond. To our knowledge the Boating and
Football caps etc., remain the same. Many contend that
to give colours is the way to foster a keenness in
sports; this is true, but it is possible to have too much
of a good thing. Giving colours to the crew that wins
the House Race is all very well, but it does not reward
the best rowers or even the next best rowers to the
first four. Three good men and a rank one may be
beaten by four moderate rowers, but the four do not
deserve any more colours than the three. If more colours
were to be given to rowers, the}' should be given, say
to the second four or first eight; but it is our humble
opinion that enough colours are given already.

The Race v. Heidelberg College is fixed for June 8th;
when we hope to make a better stand than last year;
we will at least row slides v. slides, since we bave
Mr. Welshman to coach us.
