again proves too much for him and he dies soon after
the sergeant has left him. The part of the old man
was extremely well rendered by Ranking, and Hankey
as doctor was very realistic.

The French play "Les deux Aveugles" by Jules
Moinaux although first on the programme came last.
It was a short comedy; two beggars who say they are
blind, meet on a bridge and after some time one of
them proposes a game of cards, and thinking that the
other is blind begins to swindle, the other does the same,
then both discover one another and begin to fight; just
then a passer by comes, and they both rush back to
their stools and begin to beg. The whole play was
very well carried out and was very amusing especially
the singing.

After the plays came the "Neuenheimer" which
was not sung with the usual vigour owing to some un-
expected hitch in the accompaniment.

Then every one adjourned to the Speisesaal for
refreshments, and after the guests had left there were
some very good songs and everyone enjoyed them-
selves. The following were among the guests invited:
