N. 0.0. 0. v. MR. HILL'S XI.
Saturday, May 12th, 1900. This match ended in a win for
Mr. Hill's team by 55 to .38. The School won the toss and
went in first, Heyward and Mortimer I. opposing the attack
of Mr. Hill and Parker II. Mr. Hill took the first wicket and
two more fell in quick succession to Parker II. Park then
went in and was bowled by Tremlett after a useful 15. The
wickets then fell fast, seven were down for 25, and then Mr.
Hill and Parker II. secured the last wickets, leaving
Neuenheim with a miserable total of 38. Parker II. and
Mr. Hill bowled very well, both taking four wickets for
14 runs. Park was the only one who showed any form for
the School. Mr. Hill and Howard then went in for the Town,
to face the bowling of Park and. Mortimer I. Howard was
bowled by Park for 3 and Mr. Hill was caught by Haslam
for 11. Mr. Garrod and Parker II. then went in and added
25 to the score by some lively hitting. "With the exception of
Parker I., who made 7, the rest of the team collapsed, making
only 7 between them. Park and Mortimer I. bowled well
taking nine wickets between them.
The failure of both elevens was due to the rainy weather,
which had rendered the wicket very soft and gave every
advantage to the bowlers, while practice had been impossible.
B. Park was given his First XI colours after this match.
