DEE NEUENHEIMEE.

Soon after the commencement of the game, Frankfurt
dribbled the ball over our line and scored. The try, however,
was not converted. To all appearance it was a deliberate
foul, for as Landvoigt was about to fall on the ball, the
Frankfurter plainly charged into him. Knyvett dropped out
from the 25 line, and then the play assumed a pretty even
character, shortly before half-time, however, Neuenhoimmado
a good rush, and brought the ball dangerously near their
opponents' goal line. Two or three times they nearly scored,
but their efforts had proved unavailing when the whistle
sounded and half-time was giveu. On the resumption of play
the game was very keenly contested, and some rough play
followed. The forwards particularly were playing a good
defensive game, while Smythe was very conspicuous, breaking
away on several occasions. Some good tackling by Harris
and Landvoigt followed, but Frankfurt, nevertheless, again
managed to score, Landvoigt running in by the touch-line.
Again we beg to differ from the referee, for Landvoigt
certainly ran beyond the 15 yards limit; but our protests were
of no avail, the opinion of a German spectator being counted
as more valuable. The try was again unconverted. Neuen-
heim now made a determined effort to get in, and Mr. Hill
aided the scrum when in difficulties; though he rather
neglected his three-quarters, thus leaving Friday with two
men to mark, a task which he ably carried out, until
Landvoigt brilliantly intercepted a pass and scored between
the posts. This time the try was converted. A few minutes
afterwards time was called, thus leaving Frankfurt victors by
1 goal, 2 tries (11 points) to nil. We cannot congratulate the
referee, for he seemed to be ignorant of most of the rules,
while to add to this he had the misfortune of being very blind.

The Team :—E. Landvoigt (back), Mr. Hill, L. M. Priday,
G. Young, Edgar (three-quarters), A. S. Harris, Eeynolds
(halves), W. A. Knyvett, E. Umbers, Fallowfield, Herbert,
Smythe, Stirke, Yaughan (forwards).
