DER NEUEN HEIM ER.
Juno. This is very creditable when we consider that there were four
hundred and thirty-eight candidates for sixty-eight vacancies.

Congratulations also to Fraustadt who obtained First Place in
German by a large majority at the same examination.
This term has been a period of evolution for us. It has seen the
establishment of a Literary and Debating Society in the College.
It has also seen the re-arrangement of the Library upon a firm and
business-like basis. Both of these "reforms" have supplied long-felt
wants.

A Debating Society, in my opinion, is one of those institutions calcu-
lated to do young people a world of good. It helps them to think and to
analyse causes and effects, while it also serves to enable them to express
their thoughts clearly and in good language. In a word, it develops
faculties which would otherwise lie dormant, even with a good educa-
tion.

The idea of establishing a Debating Society in the College origin-
ated with our Mathematical Master, Mr. Nicholls, who was ably seconded
in the work by Mr. Hill. They are to be heartily congratulated upon
the success which has attended their efforts.
Our Cricket Season this year has been wonderfully successful "We
were able to put a first-rate 1st XI. in the field, who, out of the eight
matches which they played, won seven and only lost one and that by a
small margin.

Our "Footer" has also been a great success, as a reference to our
Football Columns will show.
