Mr. Jarosław Bodzek, M.A., classical archaeologist and antique numismatist, be-
came secretary. Active in the work of the Section are not only members but
a large circle of young enthusiasts of numismatics as well as archaeologists, histo-
rians, and philologists interested in coinage. Meetings are no longer devoted to
spreading numismatic knowledge; rather they focus on scholarly issues, mainly
of antique and medieval numismatics, more rarely of oriental or modern numi-
smatics or research methodology. The lecturers are members, collaborators, and
guests from other centers. A meeting in 1994 hosted participants of an Interna-
tional Numismatic Committee session and heard a lecture by dr. Andrew Burnett
of the British Museum. Comprehensive lecture summaries are published in the
journal Science Committee Meeting Reports, Polish Academy of Sciences, Cra-
cow Branch. From 1991 to 1996, 19 meetings were held.
The Section now includes 13 members: prof. Wiesław Kaczanowicz (Silesian
University, Katowice), prof. Aleksander Krawczuk (Jagiellonian University), dr.
Stanisława Kubiak (Jagiellonian University, Oriental Sources and Numismatics
Laboratory), prof. Andrzej Kunisz (Silesian University, Katowice), prof. Teslaw
Morawiecki (Pedagogical University, Rzeszów), prof. Janusz Ostrowski (Jagiello-
nian University), prof. Zbigniew Perzanowski (Jagiellonian University), dr. Ja-
nusz Reyman (retired, National Museum, Cracow), prof. Maciej Salamon (Jagiel-
lonian University), prof. Stefan Skowronek (Pedagogical University, Cracow), prof.
Joachim Śliwa (Jagiellonian University), prof. Józef Wolski (Jagiellonian Univer-
sity), prof. Zenon Woźniak (Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology, Polish Aca-
demy of Sciences, Cracow).
