in the Kushati Coinage
ABSTRACT: Three coins minted by Huvishka and Vasudeva I bear icono-
graphic features which are unique for the Kushan coinage. The deities depicted
on them are multi-armed and hołd attributes such as a conch, a chakra or a lo-
tus, which are common in the sculptural representations of Vasudeva-Krishna and
Vishnu. However, it is not elear if these attributes were the elements that allowed
the Kushans to identify a given representation as Vaishnavite. This paper consti-
tutes an attempt to present and explain the iconography of these coins comparing it
with the Mathura and Gandharan sculpture as well as with the pre-Kushan coinage.
It seems that the deity depicted on the reverses of the coins of Huvishka is Vishnu,
and on the coin of Vasudeva I - Vasudeva-Krishna.

Trzy kuszańskie monety (dwie atrybuowane Huwiszce i jedna Wasudewie)
cechuje unikalna na tle kuszańskiego mennictwa ikonografia. Przedstawione
na nich bóstwa są wieloramienne oraz wyposażone w atrybuty takie, jak kon-
cha, dysk czy lotos, charakterystyczne dla wizerunków Wasudewy-Kriszny oraz
Wisznu. Nie jest jednak jasne, czy obecność wyżej wymienionych elementów
w czasach kuszańskich pozwalała identyfikować takie przedstawienie jako
wisznuickie. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi próbę omówienia i wyjaśnienia znaczenia
ikonografii tych monet, przy porównaniu ich z rzeźbą Mathury i Gandhary oraz
przedkuszańskim mennictwem. Wydaje się, że bóstwem przedstawionym na mo-
netach atrybuowanych Huwiszce jest Wisznu, natomiast na monecie Wasudewy
przedstawiony został Wasudewa-Kriszna.
