69. Audience Hall in the Wawel Castle
The decoration of the Renaissance section of the second storey
is concentrated in the upper parts of the rooms: reconstructed
coffered ceilings, richly painted and gilded, and a series of painted
friezes. Authentic murals attributed to Hans Diirer and Antoni of
Wroclaw are preserved in three rooms south of the Envoys’
Staricase: Tournament Room (Sala Turniejowa), Military Re-
view Room (Sala Przegl^du Wojsk) and Audience Hall. Espe-
cially engaging is the decoration of the last one, the frieze
depicting the cycle of human life based on the text by the Greek
Stoic Kebes. Quite unique was the ceiling in this room, its
caissons adorned with 194 wooden heads sculptured by Sebastian
