Growing right before our eyes, the new town devoured some
ancient sites. Right next to the metallurgical plant rises a pre-
historic mound, traditionally believed to contain the grave of
Wanda, the daughter of Krakus. Overwhelmed by the industrial
moloch and caught in a stranglehold of tramway tracks, it typifies
the postwar destruction of the historic landscape. The sweeping
changes did not reach the Cistercian Abbey at Mogiia and its
immediate vicinity. The Cistercians were set up in Mogiia, located
