The idea of the International Cultural Centre, recently founded in Cracow,
was born together with the new political reality of Central Europe. The new
international situation allows one to prefigure the construction of a “Greater
Europe” and presents an opportunity to strengthen cultural cooperation. It is
why at the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe Paris summit in
November 1990 the Polish Prime Minister proposed that the International
Cultural Centre in Cracow should be a part of a network of institutions for
strengthening the cultural unity of Europe.
AIMS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED
RESEARCH on European culture: its history, artistic and ethnic diversity and
unity. Special stress will be put on the culture of ethnic and minority groups and
its protection.
STUDIES on urban development, urban renewal, integrated conservation and
revitalization of historic urban areas in Central and Eastern Europe. Special stress
will be put on the phenomenon of the large historical cities of Central Europe and
new strategies for their protecion and functioning.
EDUCATION of the Central and East Europeans, especially young generations,
in order to help them fully participate in multicultural societies. Especially to
stimulate citizen’s participation in local and regional affairs and the cooperation of
local authorities and professionals from East and West Europe in the fields of
cultural policies and their cultural heritage.
PROMOTION of art of different cultures. To convert Cracow into a forum for
the presentation and confrontation of art from various parts of the continent
(theatre, cinema, visual arts).
INFORMATION by collecting documents, connected with a future library, and
documentation centre for various international institutions as well as individuals
to ensure information by way of databank networks and publications.
