C H A P. XX.
Of the Des 1 G ns of feme temples that are out 0/ Rome, in Italy; ami,
in the sir ft place, r,s the temple of Bacchus.
WITHOUT the gate, as it is now called, os Santa Agnesa, and by the antients
Vim'tnaKs, from the name of the hill where it is placed, the following temple is to
be (feen pretty intirc, which is dedicated to Santa Agnesa.
I believe that it was a sepulchre, because there was a very large case OJ porphry sound
i , very beautifully carved with vines, and little children gathering grapes; which has
made some believe that it was the temple of Bacchus. And because it is the common- opinion,
and now serves sor a church, I have placed it among the temples.
