IN Pols, a ciiv os I/lri.i, betides the theatre, amphitheatre, and anarch, mod beautisul
i ices, os each of which mention mall be made, and their deligns put in their places
there an upon the piazza, on the same part, two temples of the lame bigness, and with the
lame ornament*, distant the one from the other fisty eight feet and sour inches; thede-
signs of which follow.
Theik aspect is the promlos. The manner is that, which according to VlTRuvimj
I have iviiuc called tiililos, that has the intercolumniatiqns of two diameters; and the inter-
columniation in the middle is os two diameters and a quarter. Round thesc temples there
goes a bafement, at the height of which they have their sloor, or pavement; and
the ascent to it is by stcps placed in the front forwards as has been seen in many other
temples. Thebases os the columns are in the Attic manner, and have the orlo as thick
as all tiie rest of the bale. The capitals are in the manner of olive leaves, very neath
wrought. The caulicoli are drcsTed with oak leaves ; which variety is seen but in sew others
and i> worthy os notice. The architrave is alio different from the greater part of the others-
because its first sascia is large, the second lets, and the third under the cimacium is also less.
Thcse sascia's project forward in the lower part; which was done that the architrave mijht
have but little projection, and thus might not obstruct the letters which are in the srize in
the sront, which are thefc:
ROMAS ET AVGVSTO CAESARIS INVI. F. PAT. PATRIAE.
The foliage made in the said frize goes round the other parts of the temple. The cornice
has but sew members, and is wrought with the usual intaglia's. The ornaments of the
door are not to be seen ; I have, nevertheless, inserred them in the manner I think they
mult have been. The cella is in length one fourth part more than its breadth. The whole
temple, including the portico, is above two squares in length.
I HAVE made three plates of these temples.

IN Nijmts, a city os Provence, which was the native country os Antoninus Pius the
emperor, among many other beautiful antiquities, the two sollowing temples are to be
seen. This firsl is by the inhabitants of that city called La Maison ^udree, because it is oj
a quadrangular sorm, and they say it was a basilica. (What baiilica's were, their ule, ;"lJ
