INSCRIPTIONS ON CORINTHIAN VASES 167
57. Crater no. 1462. The following readings were kindly sent by Mr. Caskey:
H<E)ATH (Ptira6v}), MBIAg- (Neia8 ?).
For other nonsense inscriptions, cf. nos. 30, 36, 45. The I is probably a straight
iota, but might conceivably be a gamma, cf. no. 23 ; for the dotted theta cf. no. 45.
58. Crater fragment, mentioned by Gabrici, Mon. Ant. xxii, 473.
MA\2l ([IIpcoT€cr][\w or the like).
59. Crater no. 1464 (K. 20, no. 19). The following readings are largely due to the
kindness of Professor Beazley:
Obv. 50>^b (?'Apyd>i), .VFOf), (?-vFoov), 30MA<0P (? [%Ap}poyd[im), 20M28M
(? Savai [K. ZeXivm), or Meivd>i ?) BPMASOM ([E]ppatos), 50TA<1B (Eparm),
McDOPTOM (2(p6pTo<:).
Rev. A AAAMAFOI . I (AaSdfiaFos), AAAAMAM (AaSdfias), BSPOTSON' ('iWiW: cf.
no. 61).
60. Crater no. 1467. I owe the following to the kindness of Professor Beazley:
Obv. POA VAODSAOM {IIoXv8d>pi8os), M0PP*M2» (Kto-imros). Rev. TA>AOM (AaSos).
Kisippos would naturally be taken as part of Nikesippos, miswritten, but Professor
Beazley tells me there is no sign of the missing letters at the beginning; he explains the
name in the light of the Laconian word Ktrrov, which Hesychius (Schmidt ii, 487)
gives as a Laconian equivalent of KaXov. The name Kia(a)nnros will therefore be
parallel to KdXXnnros (Bechtel-Fick, 222). Polydoridos and Lados are miswritten for
Polydoridas and Ladas (for the latter cf. nos. 43, 62, 69-70).
61. Crater no. 1471 (K. 26, no. 39 and pp. 32, 35, 41, 43).
Obv. A**APBOM ^A<pidp-qos), BVplASKA {EvpvSUa, the second upsilon broken),
ASMSPPA (AMmra), AMAMA^OMAA (AapoFdvaaa), A\V<D5<ia (EficpvXa), lPATW
(Bdrav), M3TM0B \ (Aoutis), MO^TOIHSB ('Iiriroricov), M8ABM$\AB (AXifirj8r]s).
Rev. MOTM)lA (A.k(a)arTos), Al>CEOM (Apyeios), <J>BPBM (#ep»??)> MOM A<t> YB {Evcpafios),
TOTMA)! (Kda-Tcop), AAMATO . {A8/xaro[s}), ATAMTOP), (AXdarccp), \M<fr*APBOM
(AficpLdprios), MOMAT^B (Lirao-os).
Under one handle.
PBI^BVM {TlrjXevs), MOM? \AT")5B (lTnrd(pX(i)fios).
The only epigraphic difficulty is the reading of " A6vt!s" ; the curious use of B
(the aspirate) for B (epsilon) may be explained on the supposition it = e, as in no. 59
(for internal BO, cf. BB^ in MBB*i*OM, I.G.A., 344).
62. Crater no. 1472.
Some of the names are as nearly illegible as could well be, but the following are
certainly the correct readings :
FAXVM (on the white anta in the left-hand corner), faxu?> MAAM\ (behind the
warrior with white crest), AaSas, FSOM (in front of the charioteer), Fw$,
MOrV\^~ (on the white horse's tail, downwards), n6Xv/3os, lAMSON (BdvQos).
For Faxys see on no. 41.
63 Crater no. 1473.
For the inscriptions on this vase, which I was able to examine only cursorily,
I must make reference to Heydemann's publication.
64. Crater-fragment, fig. 45 bis.
