lions, lioness, panthers, goats, bulls, sphinxes, boar,
stag, eagle, water-bird. By the painter of Vatican
73 (nos. 144-52 infra), cf. next. Louvre E 419,
from Italy. Detail, PI. 16, 4. Patterns as before;
animals almost all as before. By the same as the last.
Vatican 67 (Albizzati pi. 4). Patterns as before;
animals: lions, goats, stags, birds, bull. From
Narce (Mon. Ant. iv, 272 fig. 130). Apparently a
vase of this group, but the publication is inadequate.

Caere (Pottier pi. 40). Both with black-polychrome
decoration; late Transitional shapes.
Rougher style, like that of the olpai nos. 184-6,

Late shape and heavy animals, very like early Corin-
thian (cf. no. 140). Louvre E 420. PI. 13,2. Shoulder
as in no. 128. One frieze: lions, goat, panther, bull,
boar, siren. Some animals elongated, as in Corin-
thian; late. Athens, from the Argive Heraeum
(A.H. ii, pi. 59, 25 a-c). Fragments of an unusual
vase. The principal piece shows part of a man run-
ning : he wears a wolf-skin (?); his flesh was painted
either white or yellow on black, not red as implied by
Hoppin, /. c. The greater part of the contour incised.
The fragments are interesting owing to the rarity of
human figures on such vases. Fine technique:
late Protocorinthian or Transitional. Ibid., same

BROAD-BOTTOMED OINOCHOAI

Late. Corinth. Squat shape, with wider neck.
Shoulder, incised tongues on broad black band.
Panthers, bulls, (?) lions. Poor drawing, but fine
fabric. Perhaps late Protocorinthian. Syracuse,

stag, swan. Massive figures, like Corinthian. Close
