It would be impossible to convey in words any idea of the beauty of the distinct shadow cast
by the square abacus upon the swelling echinus, the surface of which is in many instances scarcely less
perfect than when it left the workman's hands.

The reader may be referred to numerous examples of the application of geometric curves to the
mouldings of the Athenian buildings in Mr. Pennethorne's work, already cited.
