The athlete head Ny Carlsberg 120 acquired at the same time no doubt
came from the same excavation; at any rate, this may be said with certainty
of two votive vases of marble, Ny Carlsberg 506-07, which together with six
similar vases were found in the same room as the Diana head. All the vases
have the same inscription: Chio D. D. (donum dedit) and are decorative works
of the 1st century A. D. Five of these vases were subsequently acquired for
the Pennsylvania University Museum (65).
Finally, the Glyptotek in Copenhagen in 1896, five years later than the
collective finds to be described below, acquired the large Nerva statue No.
542 which for many years had stood in the Palazzo Orsini in Rome (now
the Marcellus Theatre); it was secured with Ludwig Pollak as intermediary
at the auction of the palace valuables (66). The statue (fig. 14) (67) is a good
