s6 The Gentle Shepherd,
I falshood hate : come kiss thy cares away ;
1 ken to loveas well as to obey.
Sir William's generous, leave the task to me
To make strici duty and true love agree.
SANG XVIII. Tune, TWEE D-S IDE.
PsGGY. When hope was quite sunk in defpair,

Hope time away till thou appear,
So lock thee sor ay in thofe arms.

No higher degree in this lise ;

Must fade like thegowans c/May,
But inwardly rooted, will keep
Forever, without a decay.

Can quench the fair sire os love j
If virtue's ingrain'A in the wise,
And the husband have fense to approve.
Speak on! — speak ever thus,and stilI my grief,
But short I dare to hope the fond relief.
New thoughts a gentler face will soon inspire,
Tnat with nice airs swims round in silk attire j
Then I! poor me!—with sighsmay ban my fate,
When the young laird's nae mair my heansome Pate,
Nae mair again to hear Tweet tales cxprest,
By the blyth shepherd that excell'd the rest :
