5. KXB-20:
Ca. 69 very small ring-beads, decayed. These alternated in the same string with ball-
heads of carnelian.
7. K 1053: 17:
Strung on leather skirt (see above, 2, (5), (c), 4).
8. K 1066:21:
One bead (3x2 mm.).
9. K 1604:23:
83 beads (2 X 2-3 mm.), silver (or very base gold).
(2) Type ii, disc-beads
(a) As has been said, the only essential difference between the disc-bead and the ring-
bead is one of diameter. Yet this greater diameter made the disc-bead unsuitable for many
of the purposes for which the ring-bead was used, especially for pot-nets, and ornamenta-
tion on cloth and leather. Strung in long strands, the disc-beads of blue faience present a
rather fine appearance, in a long flexible snake-like cylinder of blue, and in such strands
were used as girdles and as necklaces. At least one case was found in which disc-beads were
used with other beads in a necklace. The disc-beads of faience were occasionally picked up
on the surface of the plain about the Western Deffufa, after rain. One was recorded from
the debris of K I, and three, one of which had a diameter of 16 mm., from the debris in
front of K II. The rest were distributed as follows:
K III: Debris of mound — four lots making 99 beads, including one group of 95.
Corridor B — seven lots, of which one (K 305: ii) had 596 beads; diam., 5-10mm.
Graves —K 310 (702 beads), 315, 321, 323 (35 beads), 326 (89 beads), 332 (two
lots, 900 and 255 beads), 334 (28 beads), 335 (72 beads), 338 (201 beads);
diam., 5-11 mm.; ten lots.
K IV: Corridor — ten beads in K 404.
Graves — K 414 (one bead), 428 (110 beads), 453 (5 beads); diam., 7-8 mm.;
three lots.
K X: Corridor B — eleven lots, of which Nos. 52 (90 beads), 275 (83 beads), and
294 (141 beads) were the largest; diam., 5-11 mm.
Graves — K 1001, 1028, 1037 (31 beads), 1041 (74 beads), 1090 (100 beads),
1095; diam., 7-12 mm.; six lots.
K XVI: Debris above main chambers — five lots of from 1-15 beads; diam., 5-15 mm.
Chamber C — Nos. 31(98 beads), 33 (675 beads), 37 (37 beads), 48 (one),
62 (100± beads); diam., 5-6 mm.; five lots.
Graves — 1618 (11 beads), 1625 (34beads), 1626 (140± beads); diam., 8-12mm;
three lots.
K XVIII: Chamber B — one lot in debris (127 beads of diam., 6 mm.; 362 beads of diam.,
9+ mm.).
Graves — K 1801 (102 beads), 1803 (4 beads); diam., 8-11 mm.; two lots.
K Cem. B: Graves — K B 21 (347 beads; diam., 7 mm.), B 22/6 (10 beads; diam., 7 mm.).
