tinctive R. P. ware at Kerma in Dynasty XII. The Kerma types of R. P. are either Egyp-
tianized forms or forms used for Bkt. vessels. The examples are divided below into the
following form-types:
1. R. P. I-IV, VII-X, XVI, Nos. 1-25, medium sized jars. Partly Egyptianized forms.
2. R. P. IV-VI, Nos. 26-53, very small to medium sized jars (the late of squat form). Partly
Egyptianized forms.
3. R. P. XIII-XV, Nos. 54-66, bottle-jars (cf. B. P. VI-IX). Kerma forms.
4. R. P. XVII, XII, Nos. 67-74, large jars. Egyptianized and Kerma forms.
5. R. P. XVIII-XX, Nos. 75-77, flat-bottomed jars.
6. R. P. XXI, XXII, Nos. 78-84, globular wide-mouthed pots. Kerma forms.
7. R. P. XXIII, No. 85, incised bowl. Egyptianized.
8. R. P. XXIV, Nos. 86, 87, small jug with handle (cf. W. J. XII).
9. R. P. XXV, XXVI, Nos. 88-90, small vessels with spout. Kerma forms (cf. Bkt. 11-7
and Bkt. XVII, XVIII).
10. R. P. XXVII, XXVIII, XXIX, Nos. 91-94, beakers, rilled beakers, and covers. Kerma
forms (cf. Bkt. III).
11. R. P. XXX, XXXI, Nos. 95, 96, bowls. Kerma forms..
12. R. P. XXXII, Nos. 97-104, “teapots.” Peculiar Kerma form.
The Egyptianized forms are of good red ware, with brown or black center in the break,
and may be assumed to represent the Middle Kingdom prototypes of the Egyptian R. P.
of the succeeding period. But many of the better made jars under groups 1, 2, 3, and 4,
are of the black fractured Nubian ware, while the peculiar forms of Kerma, groups 6, 9, 10,
11, and 12, are apparently of the same material as the Bkt. The globular pots, group 6,
and the ilteapots,” group 12, are of coarser grain but have the black fracture; the others,
groups 9, 10, and 11, are soft baked and have a brown fracture.
