The three jars, R. P. XVIII, XIX, and XX, are grouped together in spite of the dif-
ferences in form and size, simply because of the flat bottom common to all. In R. P. XIX,
the flattening of the base is too narrow to afford stability, but in both the others the base


is stable. For other flat-bottomed jars, see Bkt. XVIII, R. W. XI and XXI; but the
great majority of all vessels at Kerma have a rounded bottom as in Egypt in the Middle
Kingdom and New Kingdom.1
