Roofing: On the north wall are three emplacements for roofing beams cut in the rock. They
measure 0-50 m. at back and o-6o m. at front. Above them (better seen on the east wall)
is cut a ledge for roofing construction.
Portcullis to room d: 1-62 m. wide x ? (broken). Thickness: 0-15-0-20 m. Three grooves on
back and front of stone, 8-7-7 cm- wide and about 3 cm. deep. Three holes near top of
stone, about 7-8 cm. in diameter. Ropes passed through grooves and holes for lowering stone.
Stairway: from chamber distance—■
To first portcullis: 4-0 m.
Thickness of portcullis: 0-3 m.; total, 4-3 m.
To second portcullis: 1-5 m.; total, 5-8 m.
Thickness of portcullis: 0-3 m.; total, 6-i m.

Substructure: single chamber cut in rock. On north and south walls traces of wooden beams at
about 2-3 m. height. On these walls is a ledge cut in the stone and filled with brick-work. This
ledge is 50 cm. lower than the east and west walls. The beams rest upon about 22 cm. of brick-
work built upon the ledge. The stairway enters the chamber about 90 cm. above the floor level
of the chamber. The axis of the chamber is E-W.
