Substructure: the two plans show differences. The stairway leads down from the west with four
steps and then turns south, descending by steps, 13 m. long and about 7 m. deep. It then
descends by a rectangular shaft, 3-20 (?) m. by 1-26 m., being about 7 m. deep. The entrance

was on the south side at the bottom of the shaft, blocked by a portcullis slab. The doorway
gave access to a wide E-W corridor, on which opened a wide N-S corridor, giving the main apart-
ments a T-shaped form; wide hall and deep hall. In embrasure of south wall of E-W hall, on
each side of entrance to N-S hall, a false-door is cut in wall. From the E-W hall, north
side, a loculus opens on each side of the entrance, and east of the eastern loculus a passage
leads to an unfinished burial-chamber (?). From the eastern end of the E-W hall a door-
way leads to a small hall with loculus. A low, narrow passage opens high up in the western
end of the E-W hall. At the east end of the south wall of this hall, a doorway leads
to a corridor which is connected with the N-S hall by means of a cross corridor and a
small room. From the southern end of the western side of the N-S hall a doorway leads
to a hall with burial-chamber (typical of type IV A in Upper Egypt). In the floor of the
last-named hall a rectangular shaft 2-6 m. by i-i m. descends for about 10-5 m. The door-
way at the bottom was blocked with a second portcullis slab. The lower doorway leads into
a hall, 5 x2 m. In the west wall is a coffin recess, 2-45 m. (N-S) by 1-5 m. wide (the actual
burial-place).
