Zoser (Netery-khet), p. 3.
Superstructure: see Fig. 75; solid c.b. mastaba, composed of nucleus and three or four additions;
the inner nucleus and the complete mastaba (to which an addition was made) were both panelled
with palace-facade pattern on the valley side (east) only. Interior corridor chapel on east face,
painted offerings on white plaster (scenes on wall of latest addition). Carved wooden panels in
‘doorway’ of panelling.
The measurements are those of the complete mastaba without the outer casing or later
additions.
Measurements: N-S E-W Prop. Area
Overall . . . 39 m. 17-4 m. 1/2-3 678-6 sq. m.
Substructure: chambers on three levels, but topmost level is that with the complex of chambers;
a stairway cut in the rock (open trench) descends to roof of second level; 12-6 m. long and
14 m. deep; the upper part of the stairway is filled with c.b., leaving a shaft 5 m. (N-S) by
2 m. (E-W). Depth of shaft to floor of the topmost level, 10-4 m.; depth of gravel about 5 m.
Height of rooms of topmost level: 2-2-2-5 m.
Height of second level chamber: 1-9 m.
The stair and shaft descend to the roof of the second level, where an opening, 1 m. wide (N-S),
gives access to the second level, of which no plan is published. Through the floor of the
second level a shaft 2-2-1-2 m. long (N-S) opens in the roof of the third level.
Depth of floor of third level: 23-4 m.
Height of chamber of third level; 0-9 m. (no plan given).
Apparently the topmost level was the only one used.
