as near the pyramid of Unas. Reliefs from chapel are in the Louvre: palace-facade panelling on west wall of
modified cruciform chapel, and scenes from life on other walls.
. .. .: Ka-uahen: On DeMorgan’s map, but no other references.
....: Sa-mery: mastaba excavated by Mr. Firth outside entrance to Step Pyramid enclosure. On Survey Map.
....: Ny-kauw-ptah: as above.
....: Lepsius No. 21: mastaba without name given on Lepsius’s map. It is apparently no longer visible.
The following mastabas are in the eastern group, but their exact location cannot be determined. As it is impossible
even to suggest their approximate position, they have been omitted from the map, but I list them for the sake of
completeness.
D 49: Khnum-hetep: among the tombs listed by Lady Petrie; hm ntr of Weserkaf and sM wrb of his sun temple as well
as hnt of his pyramid; reliefs from chapel in the British Museum and the Berlin Museum, tablet from false-door
in Cairo Museum, No. 1423. The wife is named Khentet-ka and the son, Weserkaf-ankh. This is probably
the man shown in the reliefs of Weserkaf.
D 57: Kapuw-yenepuw: listed by Lady Petrie: 80 metres from enclosure wall of Step Pyramid (Porter and Moss).
D 55: Nefer-irt-n-f: modified cruciform chapel in Brussels: Van de Walle gives no location more exact than that the
mastaba was not far from the Pyramid of Zoser. The owner was shd hm ntr wr s; of the mrt temple of Sahura;
hm ntr of Ra in the sun temples of Neferirkara and Weserkaf (?). The wife was the rht nswt Theset-kauw.
D 47: Nen-kheft-ka: reliefs from chapel in Cairo Museum: stela No. 1484, and other blocks, Nos. 1533 and 1538.
This man is certainly represented several times in the reliefs of Sahura, where he bears the same title, smr wrty
shm ch. In one case he is shown carrying a haunch of beef among the offering-bearers. He was shd wrb of the
pyramid of Weserkaf, wrb of the pyramid of Sahura, and wrb Rr in the sun temple of Weserkaf. Estates of
Weserkaf and Sahura. Sixteen statues in Cairo Museum.
D 50: Ny-kauw-ra: shd of the pyramid of Weserkaf and hm ntr of Weserkaf and Neferefra; rh nswt.
D 51: Ptah-hetep: hm ntr of Weserkaf and hm ntr of Ra in the sun temple of that king: rh nswt pr r;-. wife, rht nswt
Khent-kauw-s. He had a son named Nefer-her-n-ptah, which is the name of the owner of No. 61 = D 21.
D52: Senuw-ankh: hm ntr of Weserkaf and wrb of the pyramid of Sahura. Fragment of false-door in Berlin Museum.
Fragment probably from north wall of chapel in Cairo Museum (Borchardt No. 1554): man seated at table with
offering-bearers and slaughter scene. This block is also marked 233 and two other blocks showing procession
of offering-bearers have this number (their numbers in Borchardt’s catalogue are: 1553, 1545). An offering-
tablet with list of oils is also in Cairo, No. 1337.
D 53: Ptah-nefer-iret: rh nswt: imy ht hm ntr of the pyramid of Menkauw-hor.
D 54: Ptah-shepses: rh nswt.
D 56: Sed-n-ma'at: hm ntr of the pyramids of Neferirkara, Neferefra, and Neuserra. A number of statues from this
mastaba are in the Cairo Museum.
D 58: Neferefra-ankh.
E 10: Qednes: hm ntr of the pyramid of Menkauw-hor; rock-cut tomb with statues in niches cut in the rock.
En: Prince Seshat-seshem-nofer: s; nswt n ht f h)ty r tsyty sib tity smr wrty imy rs hit nbt nt nswt; stela in Cairo
Museum, pieces numbered 1490,1491, and 1492. Two funerary priests arenamed Weser kaf-khaf and Unas-ankh.
E 12: Kapuw-yenepuw.
E 13: Meryra-ankh: a man with this name appears among the courtiers in the reliefs of Pepy II. The owner of E 13
has a stela in the Cairo Museum, No. 1483.
In the group south of the Step Pyramid, only one Old Kingdom tomb appears on the map of Lepsius and none on
those of Mariette and DeMorgan. Several mastabas have been excavated by Mr. Firth, one by Barsanti, and the chapel
from one mastaba was sent to the Field Museum in Chicago.
....: Ka-irer: excavated by Mr. Firth, near the east end of the southern enclosure wall of the Step Pyramid.
. ...: Mitri: near the latter. Exact position uncertain; omitted from map.
... . : Ikhekhi, usurped by a lady named Yeduwt: the publication of this tomb is in preparation by the Service des
Antiquites1; excavated by Mr. Firth.
1 Now appeared, June 1935: R. Macramallah, Le Mastaba D'Idout.
