Wien, 1821-1822

After Joseph Heller had spent several months in Vienna in 1821, where he personally visited and got to know the collector and art dealer Joseph Grünling (1785-1845), he catalogued the latter's Dürer drawings and even included tracings of the monograms, dates and inscriptions in Dürer's hand. Heller then sent this handwritten preliminary work for his publication to the Viennese artist for correction. Grünling added his comments in red and declared himself ‘in complete agreement’ with Heller's publication plans in March 1822. Also included is an addendum by Grünling dated 31 May 1822.
