290. The Lowering of the Cross. This spirited study con-
sists of two athletic men, one of whom is steadying the foot
of the cross, while the other receives it with the body of the
Saviour into his arms. Size,

for 44 gs. Bought by Mr. Nieuwenhuys.

the Calydonian boar while at bay, in a forest. See descrip-
tion, No. 928, Vol. ii.

Saltmarsh Castle.

292. St. Francis adoring Christ on the Cross. The sub-
ject represents the Saviour suspended on a cross, with his
head inclining downwards towards the saint, who is on his
knees at the foot of the cross, with both arms extended and
his countenance directed to the Saviour. The scene exhibits
the summit of a rocky mountain. Etched by J. de Meere,
and described from the print.
