25. The Immaculate Conception. This mysterious subject
represents the Virgin, clothed in a peach-coloured vesture of
various hues, and a blue mantle covering her head, kneeling
on a cloud, and meekly bending, with both hands placed on
her breast. Two cherubs are beneath her, one of them looks
up smilingly in her face.

27. The Paphian Grove. The view exhibits a beautiful
arcadian landscape, in which are introduced nymphs paying
adoration to Venus and Faunus. Among them, is seen con-
spicuous a beautiful nymph, nearly denuded, bending her
knees before a sylvan deity, and a cupid ; she, at the same
time, modestly turns her head aside, and raises her hand to
her face : two others are also before the statue, and a third
is dancing. In a more retired part of the grove are other
nymphs, paying homage to Venus.
