gg THE EMIGRANT.

A cot or hammock—the former preferable because
of permanent utility.

A wash-hand stand and appurtenances.

A clothes-bag'; piece of carpeting- or floor-cloth for
cabin; a foot-tub; a chest of drawers; a looking-
glass ; camp chair; cabin lamp; tin can; and a few
books.

In respect to coats, waistcoats, and trousers, the
passenger will suit himself. It should be remembered
that, for the first ten days of the voyage, and for the
fortnight during which the vessel is rounding the
Cape, the weather is sufficiently cold to render woollen
clothes particularly acceptable.

The addition of a revolver will not be amiss, for life
and property will, for a long time to come, be insecure
in upper India.
