Of the making of etch-
ings, good, bad and in-
different, there would seem
to be at the present
moment no end, yet happily
there is encouragement for
the genuine etcher if he be
a true and individual artist,
and nothing has been more
remarkable, amid the
present popularity of the
medium, than the connois-
seurs' immediate recogni-
tion of the gifted young

there is no country that can
excel or even equal us in
artistic manufacture." Mr.
Brown also subjected to
severe criticism the new
regulations for examinations
in industrial design issued
by the Board of Education.
"We have forced upon us,"
"he said," a scheme of
examinations which is more
academic, extreme, unneces-
sary, and impossible than
anything ever attempted be-
fore. I go so far as to say
that the new regulations for
examination in industrial
design will result in a fiasco,
for the simple reason that
no industrial student . . .
