LONDON.—As our frontispiece to the
a present number we give a reproduc-
tion of a water-colour landscape by Mr.
Arthur Vokes, who lately held an exhibition
at his studio in Bayswater. Mr. Vokes is
well known in his native town and county—
Northampton—and his landscapes are a
delight to all who appreciate the fine
English water-colour traditions. In his
many wanderings he has gathered a know-
ledge of the countryside, and of trees in
particular, that gives distinction to his
reserved and refined art. In the difficult

art of portraiture in water-colour also he
has been very successful, 000
Of the accomplished draughtsmanship of
Mr. Herbert Draper numerous examples
have from time to time appeared in these
pages, and to these we now add the Study
for a Singing Siren, one of the details of his
picture Ulysses. 0000
Another and much younger painter who
sets great store on draughtsmanship is Mr.
Gerald Leslie Brockhurst, an artist who
though still some years short of thirty, has
displayed remarkable talent, as the exhi-
bitions of his work at the Chenil Gallery
in King’s Road, Chelsea, have clearly
