The little man with the pointed beard
will no more be seen in green and pleasant
Mery, but though the painter passes, the
work endures. Neither do beauty and
honesty and sincerity of purpose perish

them for a time is broken, 000

Dora Wilcox.

As these pages are passing through the
press we learn with great regret of the
death of the distinguished Belgian artist,
Fernand Khnopff, who passed away on
November 12th, in a nursing home after
an operation. He was a frequent con-
tributor to The Studio down to the
outbreak of the Great War, and his own
work as an artist has been the subject of
various articles, the earliest dating back to
1893. The Editor.

years ago with 200 students, to-day it
has 800 students, and in place of interde-
minate art does practical work for poster
designs. John Wannamaker offered the
school a monthly competition for posters
with prizes valued at $90, and the result
was so successful that at the end of the
year he gave a free exhibition of 400 ex-
hibits. Our illustrations show one of the
prize posters which Wannamaker repro-
duced and used throughout the store and
in general advertising, and one of those
awarded a prize in the " Women's Wear "
competition. 00000
