[The picture by Uccello in the National Gallery,
London, was formerly supposed to represent the
battle of Sant' Egidio (1417) and is so referred to
by Ruskin, but it was shown by Mr. Herbert P.
Home (" Monthly Review," 1901) that this painting
and the two in the Uffizi Gallery and the Louvre
respectively form a set of three pictures commemora-
ting the rout of the Sienese forces by the Floren-
tines at San Romano in 1433 which Uccello painted
for the palace of Cosimo de' Medici.—Editor.] 0

hanging and general arrangement this
year's Salon (the 135th) of the Societe des
Artistes Francais was one of the most
