THE success of Mr. Orlando Greenwood
has been remarkably rapid, for he had
few initial advantages, but it is the problem
of his future development that holds most
interest for those who know his work. 0
So far, his development has been on
strictly normal lines—the lines of realistic
representation, as it is commonly under-
stood. But there is a limit to the logical
development of this, and, pushed to its
extreme, though it may become more

exquisite in expression, it must end eventu-
ally in repetition. It leads to a cul-de-sac. 0
Mr. Greenwood has found, so far, his
completest expression in Still Life. His
subtle power of realisation has found
fitting material within this somewhat
limited if beautiful field. Its very limitations
have enabled him to develop and, as it were,
to consolidate a refined talent and highly
trained technique in a genre, the end of
which, as Mr. Greenwood sees it, is the
finest realisation of the object itself. 0
