may, of course, be used if preferred. Floors in living-rooms and bedrooms
are best covered with boarding in the usual way, and finished with solig-
num and varnish to match joinery. Kitchens and bathrooms may have
tiled floors or a covering of linoleum.
Since it is not possible in a short article to deal with every class of house,
from the artisan’s cottage to the palace, we will confine our attention to
various ty pesof small houses suited to therequirementsof educated people.
