The accompanying plans are examples of what is being done at the pre-
sent time. The bungalows have each been planned and designed to suit
particular sites and particular requirements. In this way, while having
much in common, the designs express individuality and character. It is
surprising how ideas and requirements differ, so that there is plenty of scope
for variety and no likelihood of monotony. It is this which gives the
architect his opportunity, for in studying individual needs he finds fresh
channels for thought and expression.
These bungalows, compared with pre-war standards, are certainly small,
but then the expenditure is not large and ideas have changed. After all,
size is not everything, and the finest work of architecture is not necessarily
the largest. In fact, conditions have so altered since pre-war days that a
