nize with the design. The em-
broidery cabinet (p. 60), piano-
player (p. 63), and print cabinet
(p. 64) are all executed in birch,
stained grey brown, with grey
harewood panels, the whole
slightly wax-polished. The em-
broidery and print cabinets are
fitted with ivory handles and key
escutcheons of mother-o’-pearl.
The latter piece is eminently
practical, the upper part being
fitted with forty-eight glass slid-
ing frames, while below are
drawers for larger prints. The
wardrobe in American white-
wood, stained blue with black
lines (p. 64), has brass handles
and mother-o’-pearl key escut-
cheons. A design by the same
artist,foradining-room at South
Kensington (p. 68), is particu-
larly interesting. The yellow
wall-paper, with blackand white
bands, is by Jeffrey and Co.; the
black silhouette figures on a
white ground have narrow gold
frames with black and gold tas-
sels ; the furniture is painted
black and white, with emerald
green bands round the handles of
the sideboard; and the lamp-
stand is painted ultramarine blue
with green bands and black
lines. The vellum shade is of
orange colour with black orna-
stained glass window designed and executed in ment. Equally successful are the

The two pianos (pp. 65 and 66) were designed and executed by Soren Jen-
sen, of Copenhagen. The body of the concert grand is enamelled Chinese
