The stone is a fragment of a long list of names, Latin, Greek and perhaps even
Semitic. In 1. 8 Vahlis is probably the same name as Vahalus in no. 233. Abutrianus,
or Abuterianus if be read in ligature, is without parallel, but the more natural
Aburrianus (for Aburianus) cannot be justified from the squeeze. In 1. 9 Slivanus is
doubtless an error for Silvanus. For the name Basiliscus, see above no. 32.
537. Stele. Found in the northeastern part of the city in a courtyard situated
about 100 yards southeast of the “Basilica”. The slab was found broken into three
pieces. Height of frg. a 33 cm. on the left, 37 cm. on the right; of frg. b 54 cm.
on the left, 42 cm. on the right; of frg. c 42 cm. on the left, 50 cm. on the right.
Width 50 cm. The inscription is within a frame. Height of letters 4—7 cm. Copied
by Magie in 1909.
