5541. Stele. Found in the central part of the city. It was lying on a heap of
stones near the street which runs north from the “Central Arch”, and about 75 metres
north of no. 528. Height 1.06 m.; width 32 cm. The top is rounded. The upper
part of the face is half finished, the lower part is rough. Height of letters 4-7 cm.

i. e. Hammu-allaZi, {son) of Taim-allah.
Αρ,οαΖλας is not found elsewhere, but, if the reading be correct, the form is ana-
logous to the name Αριουηλ, HammuZel, i. e. ‘Kinsman (lit. father-in-law) of God’, found
in 1 Chron. iv 24. However, perhaps Αρ.(ρ)αλλας, 'Amr-allah, should be read. For
Θεψ.αλλας, properly spelled Ηαιμαλλας, see no. 318.
555. Block. Found in the central part of the city, in a group of buildings
northeast of the “Central Arch”. The entrance is near an arch of the Bazaar
{Khan id-Dibs); the stone is over the entrance to the inner courtyard of the group of
buildings. Length 65 cm.; height 33 cm. Height of letters 7 cm.
