Βασιλε^η γεννεω (?). [Μ>?υο]ς 1Ιαν<[μ.ου, τον] κ[- έτους].
(This tomb belongs) to Basileides (the) noble(l). (It was made) in (the) month Pa-
nemos, ' of the —20th year.
1072. MILLIS. Tomb, 193 a.d. On the east side of the valley, in which the
villages of Kwaro and Millis are situated, about half a mile south of the latter. The
vestibule of the tomb is hewn in a sort of boulder. The main part of the inscription
is incised in a dove-tail plate, which is sunk in the surface : the last four letters of this
part are in the right dove-tail, the rest in the body of the plate. At the left of the
plate a second inscription seems to have been added after the other was carved.

*Ετους αρ.σζ, Δεσιου λζ, Μαρκέλλας, Κοί-
λος Μαξιμείνας Ματτωναου, εποίησεν ε'αυτώ εκ
των κυρίακών.
In (the) year 241, Desios 30th, Mar-
kellas, slave of Maximeinas (son) of Mat-
tonaos, made (this tomb) for himself from
(his) masters (finds).
Possibly Μαξιρεινας is feminine: if so we should read: Slave of Maxtmeina, wife
(or daughter) of Mattonaos. The words εκ των κυριακών might mean from the funds
of the Lord, i.e. of the Church.
I cannot interpret the inscription on the left of the plate. The first word appears
to be εκολαψεν, he chiselled: possibly εκαλυψεν was meant. The last word seems to be
απονία: in peace. The author of the inscription was evidently not completely master
of the Greek language, as the forms of the names show.
